This is an authentic, vintage 1968 limited edition woodcut or block print titled “Macedonian Bagpiper” by artist B. Solomon. This captivating graphic piece features a bold, expressionistic portrait of a traditional Balkan musician set against a vibrant, striped red and black background.
This piece is a woodcut or linocut (block print). To create it, the artist hand-carved the portrait into a block of wood or linoleum, applied ink directly to the surface, and transferred it onto paper (often using a hand press). Because the ink is pressed into the paper fibers by hand, every single print in the 90-piece run has subtle, unique variations in texture and ink coverage.
The artwork is hand-signed by the artist in pencil along the bottom right margin, dated 1968, and designated as number 4 out of an exclusive edition of 90 (4/90). The title “Macedonian Bagpiper” is delicately written in pencil on the bottom left.Condition:The print itself is in excellent vintage condition with strong, crisp inks and no visible staining or foxing on the paper. It comes housed in a classic gold-toned wood frame with a textured cream mat board.
The frame shows light vintage wear consistent with age. The paper dust cover on the back is intact but shows some typical tearing/tattering along the top edge (please see photos for exact condition details). Ready to hang!
Dimensions:Frame measures approximately 17 1/4″ H x 15″ W.
