This is a beautiful, authentic vintage mid-century original oil painting of Mount Fuji by Japanese artist K. Sugawara. This striking artwork captures the majestic peak of Mount Fuji glowing in soft pink light, rising cleanly out of a dense, textured sea of clouds with traditional evergreen trees framing the foreground. The artist used an excellent impasto technique, applying thick layers of paint to create dimensional realism on the mountain’s snow-covered ridges.
The painting is hand-signed “K. Sugawara” in yellow oil paint along the bottom right.
The back of the stretcher bars features the original vintage paper labels from Sekai-Do Art & Frame Shop located in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. Sekai-Do has been Tokyo’s premier supply house for professional artists since 1947, adding excellent provenance and proving this piece was made and framed locally in Japan.
Condition:
The oil painting itself is in fantastic vintage condition with no cracking, flaking, or fading to the pigments. The colors remain incredibly serene. The massive, high-end wooden frame features an elegant gilt-gold trim and an inner black velvet mat border that contrasts beautifully against the sky tones. The frame shows only minor, light storage wear consistent with its vintage age. Sturdy hanging wire is attached to the back.
